Steve is an advisor to the chairman of Singapore's Agency for Science and Technology, among other governmental organizations. He was the executive chairman of Green Signal Bio, one of India's largest independent vaccine manufacturers. Prior to that he was global Medical Director of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). When GSK was formed through the merger of SmithKline Beecham and Glaxo-Wellcome, Steve held the responsibility of merging a division of the companies. At the time, GSK became the largest pharmaceutical company in the world and the largest company in the United Kingdom. In addition he was Senior Vice-President for R&D/Chief Medical Officer at BTG International. Steve has also served as Professor and Dean of Medicine and Health at the University of Surrey and Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Leicester. He is actively involved in innovative biotech companies and co-founded Finland's largest accelerator fund.

He is a Fellow or Member of several societies, including the Institute of Knowledge Transfer, the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal Society of Medicine.

He holds a M.D. from London University (now University College London) and a Ph.D. from the University of Wurzburg, Germany.
